Ingredients and Substitutions
Tim Tams. Tim Tams are chocolate covered biscuits with cream in the middle and popular in Australia. If you don't have access to Tim Tams, utilise some other chocolate covered biscuit, but keep in mind you may need to adjust the amount of rolled oats you add to get the consistency for the truffles.
Cream Cheese. The necessity for something that should taste like a cheat's version of a Tim Tam Cheesecake.
Rolled oats. Originally when I combined the Tim Tams with the cream cheese, the mixture was really runny and wouldn't hold in a ball shape. I added a small amount of oats to help the truffles hold together. This may need to be adjusted depending on the type of biscuit you choose to use.

How to make cheesecake balls
Step 1: Add the Tim Tams to a food processor and blitz until they form fine crumbs. If you don’t have a food processor, pop the Tim Tams in a ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
Step 2: Either add cream cheese and oats to the food processor, or transfer to a mixing bowl and add the rest of the ingredients.
If choosing a mixing bowl, the oats will remain whole. It's not a bad taste, but will adjust the texture and won't be as smooth as processing.
If the mixture is too soft to roll, refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to firm up.
Step 3: Scoop out small portions of the mixture (about 1 tablespoon each) and roll into bite-sized balls using your hands. Place the balls on a tray lined with parchment paper and refrigerate the Tim Tam cheesecake balls for at least 30 minutes to set.
Step 4: Serve chilled or straight from the fridge for the perfect indulgent treat. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
Top Tip
Room Temperature Cream Cheese: Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature before mixing. This makes it much easier to combine with the crushed Tim Tams for a smooth, sticky dough.
Adjust Texture: If the mixture feels too soft to roll into balls, pop it in the fridge for 15–20 minutes to firm up. Adding a little extra oats can also help if it's overly sticky.
Customize Your Coating: For extra flavor and a decorative finish, roll the balls in crushed Tim Tams, cocoa powder, desiccated coconut, or melted chocolate after shaping them.
Storage
Store Tim Tam cheesecake balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days. They’ll stay fresh, creamy, and ready to grab for a quick chocolatey treat.
Freezing
These cheesecake balls freeze wonderfully. Place them in a single layer on a tray to freeze until firm, then transfer to a ziplock bag or airtight container. They’ll last for up to 3 months in the freezer. Let them thaw in the fridge before serving.
If you’re planning to freeze them, wait to coat them in any toppings (like cocoa or crushed Tim Tams) until after thawing to keep them looking and tasting their best.
FAQs
Absolutely! Any chocolate-coated biscuits will work, but Tim Tams provide the richest flavor. Try Oreos or chocolate digestives as alternatives.
